Easy Elegant Chocolate Dessert Cups

This is the perfect yummy treat when you need something fast and easy, but packed with elegance. Plus they’re made from CHOCOLATE! These cups are fun to make and use very few ingredients. This is a definite win-win suited to the palate of both kids and adults alike. You can make them in any shape for which you can find silicone molds, leaving the creative possibilities almost endless. So jump in, have fun and start creating!

You will need:

  • Melting Chocolate (dairy-free if needed)
  • Silicone molds
  • Silicon spatula or standard spoon
  • Your choice of goodies to fill the cups

Start by making sure your silicone molds are clean and dry. Then set them aside and get your chocolate melting. You can use a fondue pot, microwave, double boiler or your method of choice to melt the chocolate.

Next, take your melted chocolate and carefully “paint” the inside of your silicone molds till all the surface area is covered. I find a very small silicone spatula or the back of a spoon works well for this step. You can use any color of chocolate or get creative and mix and match to create a marble effect.

Set aside while you repeat the process with the rest of your silicone molds.
Once your chocolate is set up, carefully add a second coat. Keep in mind you don’t want your chocolate too hot, otherwise you may end up melting your first coat! Try for nice thick layers, so your desert cups hold their shape and don’t break easily. To help the chocolate set-up and keep re-melting to a minimum between layers, harden your chocolate by placing your molds in the freezer. Depending on your choice of shape and how thickly you paint, your creations may need more than two coats.
Once your final coat of chocolate has completely hardened, carefully pull back the silicone mold. This will cause the mold to turn inside out and pop-out your newly formed desert cup.

Try to keep handling it to a minimum. Warm fingers can melt the chocolate and create permanent finger prints on the cups. Store cups in a cool place—ideally in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to use. Then simply fill with your desert of choice!

These are so cool! I have chocolate molds and try to make chocolates every Christmas time – but I’ve never thought of leaving them hollow to be used as cups! Cool idea!

The great thing with the size is it’s all up to the mold you want to use. You could make anything from a huge serving bowl to the tiniest individual servings! That’s why I went with the small, gotta love variety and choices when it comes to desserts! 🙂
